| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sydney L. Reed was honored for her achievements at |

| 6 | 6 | | the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon on April 18, 2009; |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This gathering recognized 23 students who have |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an automobile accident at |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the age of 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Sydney Reed is the granddaughter of Shirley P. Reed; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | she is a sixth-grade student at Ruby Reed Academy Magnet School and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | a member of Holy Bible Way Church; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Reed is a talented singer who has participated |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in the Children's Honor Choir of the Aldine Independent School |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | District and has performed in several opera productions as a member |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of the Houston Grand Opera Children's Chorus; she enjoys acting and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | dancing as well as singing and hopes to study music in college; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is an exemplary member of her |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | community and a source of tremendous pride to her family and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | teachers, and she may indeed look with anticipation and optimism |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | toward the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sydney L. Reed on being named a |

| 30 | 30 | | 2009 honoree at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon |
