 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Briaa' Iyana Lee was honored for her achievements at
 the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon on April 18, 2009;
 and
 WHEREAS, This gathering recognized 23 students who have
 distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic
 involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith
 Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist
 Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an automobile accident at
 the age of 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund;
 and
 WHEREAS, Briaa' Lee is the daughter of Bernadette Denise
 Edmonds and an eighth-grade student at Truitt Middle School; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Lee is a participant in the Duke Talent
 Identification Program and a People to People student ambassador;
 she has been recognized by the National Assessment of Educational
 Progress, the Urban League, and the Congress of National Black
 Churches Achievers Society; and
 WHEREAS, An active member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist
 Church, Ms. Lee serves as assistant secretary of the Sunday school
 and participates in the Old Landmark Association and the Texas
 State Missionary Convention Youth Conference; and
 WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is an exemplary member of her
 community and a source of tremendous pride to her family and
 teachers, and she may indeed look with anticipation and optimism
 toward the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Briaa' Iyana Lee on being named a
 2009 honoree at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon
 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all
 of her endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Lee as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
