| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This gathering recognized 23 students who have |

| 9 | 9 | | distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an automobile accident at |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the age of 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Briaa' Lee is the daughter of Bernadette Denise |

| 16 | 16 | | Edmonds and an eighth-grade student at Truitt Middle School; and |

| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Lee is a participant in the Duke Talent |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Identification Program and a People to People student ambassador; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | she has been recognized by the National Assessment of Educational |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Progress, the Urban League, and the Congress of National Black |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Churches Achievers Society; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An active member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Church, Ms. Lee serves as assistant secretary of the Sunday school |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and participates in the Old Landmark Association and the Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | State Missionary Convention Youth Conference; and |

| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is an exemplary member of her |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | community and a source of tremendous pride to her family and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | teachers, and she may indeed look with anticipation and optimism |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | toward the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now, |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Briaa' Iyana Lee on being named a |
