| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For nearly two decades, Dr. Fred M. Zaunbrecher of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | League City has operated a free medical clinic for homeless people |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in Galveston, and for this he has been named a 2009 Unsung Hero by |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the Galveston County Daily News; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Along with his wife, Michele, Dr. "Fritz" |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Zaunbrecher founded the Luke Society Clinic in 1980 to coordinate |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | medical mission projects, and in 1995 they began the Luke Society |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Medical Mission to the Homeless, an outside clinic in Galveston |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | staffed by volunteer physicians, nurses, and lay workers; the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | clinic, which is named for the biblical Luke who wrote about the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | compassion of Jesus, is open every Saturday and provides a range of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | care; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zaunbrecher grew up in Louisiana, where he |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | admired the work of his grandfather, a horse-and-buggy doctor; he |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and his wife decided to make their home on the Texas coast after |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | moving to Galveston for a fellowship at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Medical Branch, and he is today employed as an internist in Texas |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | City; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Fritz Zaunbrecher has made a positive difference |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in the lives of many of Galveston's most vulnerable residents, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | his outstanding humanitarian efforts are indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Fred M. Zaunbrecher on being |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | named a 2009 Unsung Hero by the Galveston County Daily News and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | important work; and, be it further |
