44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Complementary and alternative medicine is a group of
66 diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products
77 that are used in addition to or in place of conventional medicine to
88 treat all aspects of well-being; and
99 WHEREAS, Texans have long enjoyed the freedom to choose from
1010 a wide variety of complementary and alternative modalities to
1111 improve and sustain their health, and today numerous Texans receive
1212 care from complementary and alternative health care providers; and
1313 WHEREAS, A number of surveys, including one published in
1414 December 2008 by the National Center for Complementary and
1515 Alternative Medicine, have shown that these types of health care
1616 services are used by individuals of all ages from diverse ethnic and
1717 socioeconomic backgrounds; and
1818 WHEREAS, Complementary and alternative medicine therapies
1919 range from acupuncture and massage to natural products such as fish
2020 oil and echinacea, and they are used to help treat an array of
2121 diseases and conditions; and
2222 WHEREAS, The health and welfare of countless people have been
2323 enhanced by the practice of complementary and alternative health
2424 care and an increased awareness of these therapies could benefit
2525 many; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2727 Legislature hereby recognize January 25-31, 2009, as Texas Health
2828 Freedom Week and encourage all Texans to seek optimal health.
