| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Grant of Galveston has deservedly been named |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | a 2009 Unsung Hero by the Galveston County Daily News; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, A dedicated volunteer, Mrs. Grant was chosen for |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | this accolade based on her enduring commitment to serving her |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | community, including her work in behalf of area youth, the elderly, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and the poor; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Grant and her husband, Dr. J. Andrew Grant, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | came to Galveston in 1973; she has worked as a math teacher at Ball |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | High School, and she also conducted gifted education classes at |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Central Middle School; Dr. Grant is a professor of medicine and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | microbiology, and he founded the state's first basic research |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | laboratory and training program in allergy and immunology at The |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | University of Texas Medical Branch; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Mrs. Grant has devoted |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | countless hours to such organizations as Meals on Wheels, Hospice |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of Galveston County, The Jesse Tree, The UTMB Faculty Women's Club, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and the League of Women Voters; in addition, she helped create the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Galveston Academic Excellence Booster Club, which underwrites |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | programs, events, and activities for students and teachers who have |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | demonstrated outstanding achievement; a woman of strong faith, Mrs. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Grant has also been active in ministries of the First Presbyterian |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Church, and she is a longtime supporter of the arts, as well as of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the local library; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through her selflessness and compassion, Eleanor |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Grant has garnered the lasting respect and appreciation of her |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | fellow residents, and she may indeed reflect with great pride on the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | positive impact she has had on her community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor Eleanor Grant on her selection as a 2009 |

| 34 | 34 | | Unsung Hero by the Galveston County Daily News and commend her for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | her many acts of goodwill; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
