H.R. No. 2134 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Greg Valentine is working to improve the lives of others as a dedicated volunteer of two faith-based ministries, and for this he has been named a 2009 Unsung Hero by the Galveston County Daily News; and WHEREAS, A first-year medical student at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Mr. Valentine regularly gives back to the community, in addition to meeting the demands of school; he shares his time and talents with the St. Vincent's House Free Clinic, and he is part of a team of UTMB students and faculty involved in the Hands and Feet Medical Mission, sponsored by the Baptist Student Ministry; for this project, members travel to towns on the Mexico border where they treat local residents, often more than 150 in a day; and WHEREAS, Mr. Valentine, who grew up in Houston, earned a bachelor's degree from Baylor University; he gained experience in mission work as a mentor during two summers at the Broken Heart Ministries Foundation's orphanage in Romania, and he chose UTMB because the schedule would allow him flexibility to continue his charitable endeavors; and WHEREAS, Committed to making the world a better place, Greg Valentine has distinguished himself through his generosity, hard work, and humanitarian efforts, and his contributions to Galveston and beyond are indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Greg Valentine on his selection as a 2009 Unsung Hero by the Galveston County Daily News and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Valentine as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
