| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Bluebonnet Youth Ranch near Yoakum has made a |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | positive difference in the lives of Texas children for four |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | decades; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This nonprofit organization dates back to 1968, when |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | a group of Yoakum businessmen pooled their funds to provide a home |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | for five needy siblings; they soon discovered, however, the need |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for licensing by the state; word spread through the community, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | following a generous donation of 45 acres and a successful |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | fund-raising campaign, they were able to open an official |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | residential home for dependent, abused, and neglected children; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch has |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | cared for nearly 400 children from infancy to 18 years of age; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | residents live in one of three cottages on the property, each |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | overseen by a permanent set of houseparents, and participate in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | such day-to-day activities as household chores, recreation, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | study; they attend school and church in the community and help tend |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to the ranch's animals and garden; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Bluebonnet works to further the education of any |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | child who graduates while in its care by assisting with both |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | financial and emotional support, and it also helps residents with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | career planning; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | health and well-being of children and youth, the Bluebonnet Youth |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Ranch benefits society as a whole, and its notable history is indeed |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch near Yoakum on |

| 32 | 32 | | its 40th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | ranch sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
