44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, United States Army Sergeant Melissa Diaz Carrasco of
66 Ben Bolt is rendering outstanding service to this country as a
77 member of the nation's armed forces; and
88 WHEREAS, Sergeant Carrasco deployed in June 2007 for Iraq,
99 where she served with the 535th Military Police Battalion;
1010 stationed in Baghdad, she worked with the detainee program, and she
1111 was awarded both the Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement
1212 Medal for the exceptional manner in which she performed her
1313 assignment; and
1414 WHEREAS, While Melissa Carrasco was posted overseas, a flag
1515 was hung in her name on the CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice Walk of
1616 Honor; following her return home, the hospital lowered that flag
1717 and presented it to her at a public ceremony, in recognition of her
1818 admirable service; although her husband, John Patrick Carrasco, was
1919 then on duty at Fort Bliss and could not be present for the
2020 occasion, a number of other family members and friends were in proud
2121 attendance, among them her children, Deryk Ryan and McKyla Sky, her
2222 parents, Eloisa and Rene Diaz, her grandmother, Guadalupe Gonzalez,
2323 her sister, Cortney Renee Diaz, and her brother, Michael August
2424 Diaz; and
2525 WHEREAS, Sergeant Carrasco has reenlisted in the army for
2626 another six-year tour; she is currently stationed at Fort Hood,
2727 where she is involved in training other soldiers who are to be
2828 deployed overseas; and
2929 WHEREAS, Before embarking on her notable army career, Melissa
3030 Carrasco served as the 1998 Miss Jim Wells County and the 2003 Miss
3131 Texas A&M University--Kingsville; a graduate of Ben Bolt-Palito
3232 Blanco High School, she studied special education at TAMUK; and
3333 WHEREAS, Through her courage, professionalism, and devotion
3434 to duty, Sergeant Carrasco embodies the highest values of the
3535 United States armed forces, and she is indeed deserving of her
3636 fellow citizens' deep respect and appreciation; now, therefore, be
3737 it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3939 Legislature hereby commend Sergeant Melissa Diaz Carrasco for her
4040 exceptional efforts in this country's behalf as a member of the
4141 United States Army and extend to her sincere best wishes for
4242 continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for Sergeant Carrasco as an expression of high regard by
4545 the Texas House of Representatives.
