No. 2161 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Founders' Garden Club is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2009, and this occasion offers a fitting opportunity to recognize the group's outstanding contributions to Brazoria County; and WHEREAS, The organization was the first of its kind in the area when it was established in 1934 by the wives of Sulphur Company employees, and through the years, it has promoted the pleasures of flower design and horticulture, and members have enjoyed sharing tips and recipes for herbal vinaigrettes; the group's annual flower show has produced beautiful arrangements and horticulture specimens, and members have filled their scrapbooks with pictures of awards from competitions such as the Brazoria County Fair, which has been a showplace for regional garden clubs; and WHEREAS, The Founders' Garden Club has also supported volunteer efforts; in addition to providing Christmas decorations for Freeport Library during the past half-century, members plant a tree or shrub at an area park every year on Arbor Day, make spring flower baskets for area nursing homes, and have partnered with the Brazosport Historical Society to refurbish flower beds at the historic Schuster Home Museum in Freeport; and WHEREAS, The organization is thriving today through the efforts of avid gardeners Eloise Adams, Laura Arrington, Estelle Brubaker, Sheryl Cramm, Faia Demain, Lillian Dye, Jimmie Dye, Joyce Girouard, Jean Good, Sara Helpinstill, Doll Mayfield, Beverly Nixon, Alma Patzke, and Dell Phillips; and WHEREAS, For 75 years, the Founders' Garden Club has given members an opportunity to set aside the cares of daily life and enjoy the happiness found in creating beautiful gardens, and its members have left lasting impressions throughout their community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Founders' Garden Club of Brazoria County on the milestone of its 75th anniversary and extend to the members best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
