| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Founders' Garden Club is celebrating its 75th |

| 6 | 6 | | anniversary in 2009, and this occasion offers a fitting opportunity |

| 7 | 7 | | to recognize the group's outstanding contributions to Brazoria |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | County; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The organization was the first of its kind in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | area when it was established in 1934 by the wives of Sulphur Company |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | employees, and through the years, it has promoted the pleasures of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | flower design and horticulture, and members have enjoyed sharing |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | tips and recipes for herbal vinaigrettes; the group's annual flower |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | show has produced beautiful arrangements and horticulture |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | specimens, and members have filled their scrapbooks with pictures |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of awards from competitions such as the Brazoria County Fair, which |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | has been a showplace for regional garden clubs; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Founders' Garden Club has also supported |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | volunteer efforts; in addition to providing Christmas decorations |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | for Freeport Library during the past half-century, members plant a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | tree or shrub at an area park every year on Arbor Day, make spring |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | flower baskets for area nursing homes, and have partnered with the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Brazosport Historical Society to refurbish flower beds at the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | historic Schuster Home Museum in Freeport; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The organization is thriving today through the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | efforts of avid gardeners Eloise Adams, Laura Arrington, Estelle |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Brubaker, Sheryl Cramm, Faia Demain, Lillian Dye, Jimmie Dye, Joyce |

| 28 | 28 | | Girouard, Jean Good, Sara Helpinstill, Doll Mayfield, Beverly |

| 29 | 29 | | Nixon, Alma Patzke, and Dell Phillips; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, For 75 years, the Founders' Garden Club has given |

| 31 | 31 | | members an opportunity to set aside the cares of daily life and |

| 32 | 32 | | enjoy the happiness found in creating beautiful gardens, and its |

| 33 | 33 | | members have left lasting impressions throughout their community; |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Founders' Garden Club of |

| 37 | 37 | | Brazoria County on the milestone of its 75th anniversary and extend |

| 38 | 38 | | to the members best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
