5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Those young people who give of their time and |

6 | 6 | | talents to assist in the demanding work of the Texas Legislature are |

7 | 7 | | truly deserving of our gratitude and admiration, and Sarah |
---|
8 | 8 | | Wilkinson is one such individual; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Originally from Wichita Falls, Ms. Wilkinson has |
---|
10 | 10 | | served as a legislative aide in the office of State Representative |
---|
11 | 11 | | Elliott Naishtat from January through May 2009, and her commitment, |
---|
12 | 12 | | dedication, and cheerful disposition have been greatly appreciated |
---|
13 | 13 | | by her colleagues; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Wilkinson's expertise in the area of health and |
---|
15 | 15 | | human services has been particularly valuable to both |
---|
16 | 16 | | Representative Naishtat's staff and his constituents, and in |
---|
17 | 17 | | assisting citizens with questions relating to these areas, she has |
---|
18 | 18 | | seen firsthand the ability of public officials to have an impact on |
---|
19 | 19 | | policy; moreover, she has learned more than she ever cared to know |
---|
20 | 20 | | about "scope of practice" issues as she followed the House |
---|
21 | 21 | | Committee on Public Health and prepared for Representative Naishtat |
---|
22 | 22 | | analyses on every bill considered by the committee; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Wilkinson has further distinguished herself |
---|
24 | 24 | | through her work on Representative Naishtat's legislation |
---|
25 | 25 | | regarding forensic exams for sexual assault victims, Medicaid |
---|
26 | 26 | | services for juvenile offenders, and youth who are in the care of |
---|
27 | 27 | | the Texas Youth Commission; going above and beyond the call of duty, |
---|
28 | 28 | | she has even been known to watch the house floor debate from her |
---|
29 | 29 | | television at home on Saturdays; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A graduate student in the Master's of Social Work |
---|
31 | 31 | | Program at The University of Texas at Austin, Ms. Wilkinson has |
---|
32 | 32 | | gained knowledge and understanding of the inner workings of the |
---|
33 | 33 | | Texas Legislature and the legislative process that will surely |
---|
34 | 34 | | serve her well as she prepares to enter the arena of macro social |
---|
35 | 35 | | work; although her coworkers, most especially the legislative |
---|
36 | 36 | | director, are sorry to see her tenure end, they share her excitement |
---|
37 | 37 | | as she prepares to embark on a future that is bright with promise; |

38 | 38 | | now, therefore, be it |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby honor Sarah Wilkinson for her outstanding |

41 | 41 | | service as a legislative aide and extend to her sincere best wishes |
