44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Those young people who give of their time and
66 talents to assist in the demanding work of the Texas Legislature are
77 truly deserving of our gratitude and admiration, and Leslie Weston
88 is one such individual; and
99 WHEREAS, Originally from Louisiana, Ms. Weston has served as
1010 a legislative aide in the office of State Representative Elliott
1111 Naishtat from January through May 2009, and her commitment,
1212 dedication, and cheerful disposition have been greatly appreciated
1313 by her colleagues; and
1414 WHEREAS, Ms. Weston's expertise in the area of health and
1515 human services has been particularly valuable to both
1616 Representative Naishtat's staff and his constituents, and in
1717 assisting citizens with questions relating to these areas, she has
1818 seen firsthand the ability of public officials to have an impact on
1919 policy; moreover, she has learned more than she thought possible
2020 about state schools, board and care homes, child care licensing,
2121 and other human services-related issues as she followed the House
2222 Committee on Human Services and prepared for Representative
2323 Naishtat analyses of every bill considered by the committee; and
2424 WHEREAS, Going above and beyond the call of duty, Ms. Weston
2525 has often stayed late into the night, preparing the
2626 representative's committee notebook and shepherding legislation to
2727 establish the Legislative Committee on Aging; she has further
2828 distinguished herself through her work on Representative
2929 Naishtat's legislation regarding access to electronic educational
3030 materials for blind and visually impaired students, social worker
3131 practice issues, and increasing access to higher education through
3232 Americorps, and she has learned a considerable amount about floor
3333 amendments; and
3434 WHEREAS, Ms. Weston is a graduate student in the Master of
3535 Social Work Program at The University of Texas at Austin, and her
3636 knowledge and understanding of the inner workings of the Texas
3737 Legislature and the legislative process will surely serve her well
3838 as she prepares to enter the arena of macro social work; although
3939 her coworkers, most especially the legislative director, are sorry
4040 to see her tenure end, they share in her excitement as she prepares
4141 to embark on a future that is bright with promise; now, therefore,
4242 be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4444 Legislature hereby honor Leslie Weston for her outstanding service
4545 as a legislative aide and extend to her sincere best wishes for
4646 continued success and happiness; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for Ms. Weston as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4949 House of Representatives.
