H.R. No. 2181 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Sixteen-year-old Michelle Cabassol of Montgomery took another step toward her Olympic dreams by winning her first senior international medal in diving on May 2, 2009, at the FINA Canada Cup in Montreal; and WHEREAS, This gifted athlete claimed the bronze medal in women's platform diving at the event, scoring 328.85 total points for her dives; just one week earlier, she had won two national titles at the Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; in that competition, she scored a personal best of 378.60 points to claim first place in the women's platform competition, and she teamed with Kaylea Arnett to win the duo's second consecutive national title in the 10-meter synchro event; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Phillipe and Joelle Cabassol, Ms. Cabassol was born in Bedford; she started diving when she was five years old and also participated in gymnastics during her youth; now a sophomore at Montgomery High School, she is coached by Bob Gunter and trains at The Woodlands Diving Academy; her previous triumphs include back-to-back 4A state titles in diving in 2008 and 2009, and she has been named Girls Diver of the Year for two years in a row by The Houston Chronicle; and WHEREAS, Michelle Cabassol's string of major victories represents the fruit of countless hours of hard work, and her admirable determination and commitment to excellence have allowed her to compete at the highest level of her sport; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Michelle Cabassol on her outstanding achievements in the sport of diving and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Cabassol as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
