5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Kerrville lost a beloved neighbor and |

6 | 6 | | admired community leader with the passing of Edwin R. Carseth on |
---|
7 | 7 | | April 26, 2009, at the age of 89; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on October 30, 1919, to Arthur and Elsie Roehr |
---|
9 | 9 | | Carseth in Chicago, Edwin Carseth attended Wilbur Wright Junior |
---|
10 | 10 | | College and Northwestern University; he answered his nation's call |
---|
11 | 11 | | to duty with service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II |
---|
12 | 12 | | and conducted supply flights over the Himalaya Mountains in the |
---|
13 | 13 | | China-Burma-India theater; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Carseth joined the air force reserves after the |
---|
15 | 15 | | war and continued to serve until 1957; during his years in uniform, |
---|
16 | 16 | | he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the |
---|
17 | 17 | | American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with |
---|
18 | 18 | | four Bronze Service Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal; |
---|
19 | 19 | | drawing on his aviation experience, he became a flight examiner for |
---|
20 | 20 | | the Federal Aviation Administration and founded the Aviation |
---|
21 | 21 | | Division of the Outboard Marine Corporation, serving as the |
---|
22 | 22 | | company's chief pilot for nearly four decades; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Carseth enjoyed the love |
---|
24 | 24 | | and support of his wife, the former Margaret Walls, with whom he |
---|
25 | 25 | | shared more than 50 years of marriage; the couple had one daughter, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Suzette, who passed away in 1982; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Carseth and his family lived in Wisconsin for a |
---|
28 | 28 | | number of years, where he was active in many community |
---|
29 | 29 | | organizations, serving as a charter member of the Milwaukee Chapter |
---|
30 | 30 | | of the Quiet Birdmen Association and the Kiwanis Golden K of Elm |
---|
31 | 31 | | Grove, as well as being a member of the American Legion, Disabled |
---|
32 | 32 | | American Veterans, and the Elks Club of Milwaukee; after he and Mrs. |
---|
33 | 33 | | Carseth relocated to Kerrville in 1987, he helped charter the Hill |
---|
34 | 34 | | Country Chapter of the Retired Officers Association and started the |
---|
35 | 35 | | Kerrville Quiet Birdmen Hangar; moreover, he volunteered at the |
---|
36 | 36 | | Kerrville VA hospital through Kiwanis and was a member of Notre Dame |
---|
37 | 37 | | Catholic Church; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Edwin Carseth lived a full and purposeful life, and |
---|
39 | 39 | | though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of service to his |
---|
40 | 40 | | country and his community will long resonate in the hearts of all |
---|
41 | 41 | | those fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Edwin R. Carseth and |
---|
44 | 44 | | extend sincere sympathy to his wife, Margaret Carseth, and to his |
---|
45 | 45 | | other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
---|
46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
47 | 47 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
48 | 48 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edwin |
