44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Residents of Kerrville lost a beloved neighbor and
66 admired community leader with the passing of Edwin R. Carseth on
77 April 26, 2009, at the age of 89; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on October 30, 1919, to Arthur and Elsie Roehr
99 Carseth in Chicago, Edwin Carseth attended Wilbur Wright Junior
1010 College and Northwestern University; he answered his nation's call
1111 to duty with service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II
1212 and conducted supply flights over the Himalaya Mountains in the
1313 China-Burma-India theater; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Carseth joined the air force reserves after the
1515 war and continued to serve until 1957; during his years in uniform,
1616 he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the
1717 American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with
1818 four Bronze Service Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal;
1919 drawing on his aviation experience, he became a flight examiner for
2020 the Federal Aviation Administration and founded the Aviation
2121 Division of the Outboard Marine Corporation, serving as the
2222 company's chief pilot for nearly four decades; and
2323 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Carseth enjoyed the love
2424 and support of his wife, the former Margaret Walls, with whom he
2525 shared more than 50 years of marriage; the couple had one daughter,
2626 Suzette, who passed away in 1982; and
2727 WHEREAS, Mr. Carseth and his family lived in Wisconsin for a
2828 number of years, where he was active in many community
2929 organizations, serving as a charter member of the Milwaukee Chapter
3030 of the Quiet Birdmen Association and the Kiwanis Golden K of Elm
3131 Grove, as well as being a member of the American Legion, Disabled
3232 American Veterans, and the Elks Club of Milwaukee; after he and Mrs.
3333 Carseth relocated to Kerrville in 1987, he helped charter the Hill
3434 Country Chapter of the Retired Officers Association and started the
3535 Kerrville Quiet Birdmen Hangar; moreover, he volunteered at the
3636 Kerrville VA hospital through Kiwanis and was a member of Notre Dame
3737 Catholic Church; and
3838 WHEREAS, Edwin Carseth lived a full and purposeful life, and
3939 though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of service to his
4040 country and his community will long resonate in the hearts of all
4141 those fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4343 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Edwin R. Carseth and
4444 extend sincere sympathy to his wife, Margaret Carseth, and to his
4545 other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edwin
4949 Carseth.
