55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Members of the Angleton Danbury Medical Center
77 Auxiliary are celebrating the organization's 40th anniversary
88 during 2009; and
99 WHEREAS, Six women from the Second Baptist Church founded the
1010 auxiliary in 1969, after hearing of plans to build a local hospital;
1111 members of the original all-female group, known as the "Ladies in
1212 Blue" for their blue pinstripe pinafores and matching caps, were
1313 responsible for staffing the information desk, operating the
1414 switchboard, and working as floor hostesses; and
1515 WHEREAS, Today more than 300 men and women belong to the
1616 auxiliary, with at least half of them serving as regular
1717 volunteers; they work in all areas of the hospital and also offer
1818 rides to and from the parking lot by golf cart; and
1919 WHEREAS, In addition to carrying out their day-to-day work,
2020 members raise money to help pay for hospital equipment and other
2121 items; over the last four decades, they have collected more than $1
2222 million through gift shop sales, hospital vending machines, bake
2323 sales, and an annual benefit concert; moreover, the auxiliary
2424 provides six college scholarships for local youth; and
2525 WHEREAS, Dedicated to the health of the community, the
2626 auxiliary works with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to
2727 sponsor monthly blood drives; these events have been recognized
2828 numerous times for the high numbers of donations they are able to
2929 collect, averaging 100 each month; and
3030 WHEREAS, Special recognition is due for charter members who
3131 have maintained their affiliation with the group since the
3232 beginning; these include Helen Brittian, Lula Clark, Wanda DuBose,
3333 Beth Duncan, Jackie Fletcher, Patsy Lawson, Sara McDaniel, Frances
3434 McDuff, Jean Mottesheard, Dorothy Jane Neal, Gayle Parsons, Bobbye
3535 Peltier, Frances Tomlin, Betty Rose Wollam, and Gina Wollam; and
3636 WHEREAS, For 40 years, the Angleton Danbury Medical Center
3737 Auxiliary has exemplified the hospital's motto, "Friends and
3838 neighbors caring for friends and neighbors," and the outstanding
3939 efforts of its members, both past and present, are indeed worthy of
4040 commendation; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4242 Legislature hereby honor the 40th anniversary of the Angleton
4343 Danbury Medical Center Auxiliary and extend to all those associated
4444 with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success;
4545 and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for the auxiliary as an expression of high regard by the
4848 Texas House of Representatives.
