6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Angleton Danbury Medical Center |
---|
7 | 7 | | Auxiliary are celebrating the organization's 40th anniversary |
---|
8 | 8 | | during 2009; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Six women from the Second Baptist Church founded the |
---|
10 | 10 | | auxiliary in 1969, after hearing of plans to build a local hospital; |
---|
11 | 11 | | members of the original all-female group, known as the "Ladies in |
---|
12 | 12 | | Blue" for their blue pinstripe pinafores and matching caps, were |
---|
13 | 13 | | responsible for staffing the information desk, operating the |
---|
14 | 14 | | switchboard, and working as floor hostesses; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today more than 300 men and women belong to the |
---|
16 | 16 | | auxiliary, with at least half of them serving as regular |
---|
17 | 17 | | volunteers; they work in all areas of the hospital and also offer |
---|
18 | 18 | | rides to and from the parking lot by golf cart; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In addition to carrying out their day-to-day work, |
---|
20 | 20 | | members raise money to help pay for hospital equipment and other |
---|
21 | 21 | | items; over the last four decades, they have collected more than $1 |
---|
22 | 22 | | million through gift shop sales, hospital vending machines, bake |
---|
23 | 23 | | sales, and an annual benefit concert; moreover, the auxiliary |
---|
24 | 24 | | provides six college scholarships for local youth; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to the health of the community, the |
---|
26 | 26 | | auxiliary works with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to |
---|
27 | 27 | | sponsor monthly blood drives; these events have been recognized |
---|
28 | 28 | | numerous times for the high numbers of donations they are able to |
---|
29 | 29 | | collect, averaging 100 each month; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Special recognition is due for charter members who |
---|
31 | 31 | | have maintained their affiliation with the group since the |
---|
32 | 32 | | beginning; these include Helen Brittian, Lula Clark, Wanda DuBose, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Beth Duncan, Jackie Fletcher, Patsy Lawson, Sara McDaniel, Frances |
---|
34 | 34 | | McDuff, Jean Mottesheard, Dorothy Jane Neal, Gayle Parsons, Bobbye |
---|
35 | 35 | | Peltier, Frances Tomlin, Betty Rose Wollam, and Gina Wollam; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, For 40 years, the Angleton Danbury Medical Center |
---|
37 | 37 | | Auxiliary has exemplified the hospital's motto, "Friends and |
---|
38 | 38 | | neighbors caring for friends and neighbors," and the outstanding |
---|
39 | 39 | | efforts of its members, both past and present, are indeed worthy of |
---|
40 | 40 | | commendation; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby honor the 40th anniversary of the Angleton |
---|
43 | 43 | | Danbury Medical Center Auxiliary and extend to all those associated |
---|
44 | 44 | | with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; |
---|

46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

47 | 47 | | prepared for the auxiliary as an expression of high regard by the |
