44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Texas Child Study Center at Dell Children's
66 Medical Center of Central Texas is working to fill the critical need
77 for mental health services for area children and adolescents; and
88 WHEREAS, A collaboration between the medical center and The
99 University of Texas Educational Psychology Department, the Texas
1010 Child Study Center opened on September 15, 2008, with the mission of
1111 providing comprehensive mental health services to all children in
1212 the 46-county region of Central Texas; Dr. William Streusand serves
1313 as the center's medical director, as well as chief of psychiatry at
1414 Dell Children's Medical Center, and Dr. Kevin Stark serves as the
1515 center's clinical director of psychology, as well as a professor in
1616 the UT Department of Educational Psychology; and
1717 WHEREAS, The center is guided by five goals, which include
1818 providing evidence-based treatment for children with emotional and
1919 cognitive diagnoses, training clinicians to work in a
2020 collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, advancing
2121 evidence-based care through research programs, developing programs
2222 to address autism spectrum disorders, depression, and other issues,
2323 and serving the emotional and cognitive needs of acute and chronic
2424 medically ill children and their families; and
2525 WHEREAS, During day to day operations, the center remains
2626 focused on such core mental health services as psychiatric and
2727 psychological evaluations, neuropsych and projective psychological
2828 testing, several types of therapy, parenting sessions, medication
2929 management, and workshop trainings for community professionals; a
3030 significant portion of its clients and patients are those on
3131 Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Plan and also those who
3232 have no financial means, and the center is supported in part by the
3333 generosity of private patrons; and
3434 WHEREAS, Mental health issues interfere with the way people
3535 think, feel, and behave, affecting all aspects of their lives, and
3636 their prevalence among youth in Central Texas is considered by many
3737 to be a public health crisis; the Texas Child Study Center serves as
3838 a vital source of high quality, compassionate mental health care
3939 that is making a positive difference in the lives of countless
4040 people; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4242 Legislature hereby honor the Texas Child Study Center at Dell
4343 Children's Medical Center of Central Texas and extend to all those
4444 associated with the center sincere best wishes for continued
4545 success with their important work; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for the Texas Child Study Center as an expression of high
4848 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
