H.R. No. 2258 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Joan Rust is retiring from Jane Long Elementary School in Abilene in 2009, drawing to a close a notable 35-year career as an educator; and WHEREAS, Ms. Rust began her career as a teacher in 1963, teaching second grade in Bryan, and she went on to teach for Head Start in Fort Worth from 1968 to 1970; and WHEREAS, In 1979, Ms. Rust began teaching for the Abilene Independent School District, and over the next 30 years, she distinguished herself teaching for Head Start, for the Basic Skills Program, and as a fifth-grade teacher; and WHEREAS, During that time, this outstanding educator has also contributed to her school as the Author/Illustrator coordinator, the Theater Club coordinator, and, since 2005, the Spelling Bee coordinator; and WHEREAS, Ms. Rust has been active in her profession as well, as a member of the National Education Association and the Texas State Teachers Association since 1963, and since 1992, as a member of the American Business Women's Association; and WHEREAS, For 35 years, Joan Rust has been a dynamic and inspirational teacher, earning the respect of her fellow teachers and the admiration and affection of generations of students, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Joan Rust on her retirement from Jane Long Elementary School and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Rust as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
