| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Joan Rust is retiring from Jane Long Elementary |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | School in Abilene in 2009, drawing to a close a notable 35-year |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | career as an educator; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Rust began her career as a teacher in 1963, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | teaching second grade in Bryan, and she went on to teach for Head |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Start in Fort Worth from 1968 to 1970; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1979, Ms. Rust began teaching for the Abilene |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Independent School District, and over the next 30 years, she |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | distinguished herself teaching for Head Start, for the Basic Skills |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Program, and as a fifth-grade teacher; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, During that time, this outstanding educator has also |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | contributed to her school as the Author/Illustrator coordinator, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the Theater Club coordinator, and, since 2005, the Spelling Bee |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | coordinator; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Rust has been active in her profession as well, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as a member of the National Education Association and the Texas |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | State Teachers Association since 1963, and since 1992, as a member |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of the American Business Women's Association; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, For 35 years, Joan Rust has been a dynamic and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | inspirational teacher, earning the respect of her fellow teachers |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and the admiration and affection of generations of students, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as she |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Joan Rust on her retirement from |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Jane Long Elementary School and extend to her sincere best wishes |

| 32 | 32 | | for continued happiness; and, be it further |
