| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Mickey R. Pennington, judge of the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 38th State District Court, retired on December 31, 2008, after 25 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | years of exemplary service in behalf of his fellow citizens; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Eldorado, Mickey Pennington graduated |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | from The University of Texas at Austin and earned his law degree at |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | St. Mary's University in San Antonio; he began his legal career in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1977 with the law firm of Kessler, Kessler, Vaughn and Pennington in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Uvalde; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Six years later, this esteemed Texan was appointed |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | judge of the 38th State Judicial District by Governor Mark White, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and he served with distinction in that position through 2008; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Judge Pennington has been active in a number of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | professional organizations, serving as president of the Uvalde |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | County Bar Association, as a board member of the Center for the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Texas Judiciary, as a life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as a fellow of the State College of the Judiciary; he is also a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | graduate of the Advanced Judicial College, a member of the Supreme |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Court Task Force for Foster Care, and a member of the Border |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | District Bar Association; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A leader in his community as well, he has shared his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | time to benefit the Uvalde County Child Welfare Board and has served |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | as chair of the First United Methodist Church Board of Trustees; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This devoted family man and his wife, Barbara, are |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the proud parents of two children, Sarah, a graduate of Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | A&M--Corpus Christi, and Rebecca, a graduate of The University of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Texas at Austin; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Judge Pennington's tenure as a jurist has been |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | characterized by diligence, integrity, and a passion for the law, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and it is indeed fitting to join with the residents of Uvalde, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Medina, and Real Counties to honor this highly respected member of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the judiciary for his outstanding public service; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Mickey R. Pennington |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | on his retirement as judge of the 38th State District Court, commend |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | him on his exceptional career, and extend to him sincere best wishes |

| 41 | 41 | | for an enjoyable retirement; and, be it further |
