| 7 | 7 | | in the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National |

| 9 | 9 | | Association of Secondary School Principals, the Spirit of Community |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Awards honor young people in middle school and high school for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | outstanding volunteer service; students are chosen at the local, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | state, and national levels, and more than 80,000 students have been |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | honored in the 13 years of the program; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A 17-year-old senior at Bishop T. K. Gorman Catholic |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | High School, Mr. Destarac was recognized for raising $45,000 to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | help a cancer-stricken boy in Guatemala pay for chemotherapy |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | treatment; he gathered the funds by soliciting donations and by |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | selling copies of a CD he recorded that features his saxophone |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | playing; he has since recorded a second CD to benefit other children |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in the Central American nation; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This compassionate young Texan has demonstrated |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | great initiative and determination in pursuit of a selfless goal, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and he is indeed an inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
