5	5	WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
6	6	recognize SOCIALIFE News Magazine for its many contributions to the
7	7	Rio Grande Valley community and to the charitable organizations of
8	8	our state and country; and
9	9	WHEREAS, SOCIALIFE News Magazine was created in November 2004
10	10	by entrepreneur Pepe Cabeza de Vaca, whose goal was to publish a
11	11	magazine that would showcase the work of South Texas nonprofit
12	12	organizations and that would help those groups become better known
13	13	throughout the area; Mr. Cabeza de Vaca's mission also included
14	14	lending support to such vital charities as the American Cancer
15	15	Society and the American Diabetes Association; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Members of the magazine's staff and its supporters
17	17	possess a love of art and music and an appreciation of the culture
18	18	of the Rio Grande Valley; they are active in such organizations as
19	19	the Rotary Club, local chambers of commerce, Kiwanis, VAMOS, the
20	20	American Cancer Society, and the Palmer Drug Abuse Program; and
21	21	WHEREAS, The magazine has provided support for Easter Seals
22	22	of the Rio Grande Valley, Su Casa de Esperanza, the Rio Grande
23	23	Valley Food Bank, STARS, the McAllen Independent School District,
24	24	South Texas College, Habitat for Humanity, The University of
25	25	Texas--Pan American, CASA of Hildalgo County, the McAllen Arts and
26	26	Cultural Movement, the Boys and Girls Club, the National Hispanic
27	27	Professionals Organization, Young Executives for Success, the
28	28	22/40 Exchange, the Valley Symphony, Pro Cantus Lyric Opera, and a
29	29	number of other institutions and organizations; and
30	30	WHEREAS, By supporting these organizations and promoting the
31	31	events they sponsor, the magazine provides information to the
32	32	community and highlights the outstanding work and accomplishments
33	33	of the many Rio Grande Valley nonprofit groups; now, therefore, be
34	34	it
35	35	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
36	36	Legislature hereby recognize SOCIALIFE News Magazine for the
37	37	important role it plays in the Rio Grande Valley community and
38	38	commend all those associated with the publication on their
39	39	exceptional work; and, be it further
40	40	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
41	41	prepared for the magazine as an expression of high regard by the
42	42	Texas House of Representatives.
