| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Hidalgo County Judge Juan de Dios Salinas III has |

| 6 | 6 | | been presented with the Leadership Award by the Rio Grande Council |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of Boy Scouts of America; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Designated to honor individuals with significant |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | community or business engagement, the Leadership Award recognizes |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | civic service at the local, state, or national level; candidates |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for the Rio Grande Council's Leadership Award also possess strong |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | records of service and support in the development of character in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the youth of South Texas; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, J. D. Salinas graduated from La Joya High School and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | master's degree in public administration from The University of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Texas--Pan American; he was elected to the post of Hidalgo County |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | clerk in 1998, at the age of 29, and took office as county judge in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 2007; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed public servant is committed to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | building a better future for young Texans, and to that end, his |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | administration focuses on promoting economic development, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | enhancing educational opportunities, expanding health care for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | children and families, and improving transportation |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | infrastructure; the devoted father of five, Judge Salinas is |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | especially committed to supporting programs that educate and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | motivate the next generation of leaders; he and his wife, Janie, are |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | involved in a variety of community activities and are members of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Holy Spirit Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, J. D. Salinas is an exemplary role model for young |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | people in the Rio Grande Valley, and this award justly recognizes |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his many contributions to the Hidalgo County community; now, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Hidalgo County Judge J. D. Salinas |

| 36 | 36 | | on his receipt of the Leadership Award from the Rio Grande Council |

| 37 | 37 | | of Boy Scouts of America and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
