| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Phillips of El Paso has distinguished himself as |

| 6 | 6 | | a dedicated philanthropist and civic leader, and his efforts in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | behalf of his fellow Texans are truly commendable; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An alumnus of Texas Christian University, Mr. |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Phillips served in the United States Air Force, and he went on to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | build a successful career in broadcasting, overseeing several radio |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | stations in Texas and beyond; he is currently the chair of the board |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | for Wells Fargo Bank; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This tireless volunteer also serves on the boards of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, The University of Texas at |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | El Paso, Candlelighters of El Paso, Hospice El Paso, the El Paso |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Holocaust Museum, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | El Paso Zoological Society, the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, Project |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | ARRIBA, and the Center Against Family Violence; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Phillips has further |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | contributed to several area organizations, including the YWCA, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Boy Scouts of America, and the El Paso United Negro College Fund, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and he has been active on countless other boards and committees; in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | addition, he has served as president of such groups as the El Paso |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | United Way, the Texas Association of Broadcasters, and the Better |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Business Bureau of El Paso; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Recognized often for both his professional |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | achievements and his civic participation, Mr. Phillips is the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Rotary Club |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of El Paso, and he was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 2001 and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2003; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Phillips enjoys the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | love and support of his wife, Nita Bentley Phillips, and his son, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | J. R. Phillips, and he is a valued parishioner at Trinity-First |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | United Methodist Church; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Committed to serving others, Jim Phillips has |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | generously devoted his time and resources for the benefit of his |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | community, and he has earned the lasting admiration and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | appreciation of all who know him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby honor Jim Phillips for his outstanding community |

| 41 | 41 | | involvement and philanthropy and extend to him sincere best wishes |

| 42 | 42 | | for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
