H.R. No. 2290 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Graden E. Taylor of Houston has made significant contributions to public education by helping to advance learning opportunities for Houston area youth; and WHEREAS, An educator for more than 30 years, Mr. Taylor currently teaches chemistry and physics at South Houston High School in the Pasadena Independent School District; in addition to providing his students with a solid educational foundation on which to build through his work with them in the classroom, he also devotes weekends and summer breaks to helping young people; moreover, he has personally funded more than $117,000 in scholarships to provide training for disadvantaged and at-risk youth; and WHEREAS, In an effort to reach an even greater number of students, Mr. Taylor authored Peanut Butter and Jelly Answers - A Test Improvement Manual for Exam Day Blackout, which has been endorsed by former Secretary of Education Dr. Rod Paige, who also wrote the foreword to the book; and WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor's concern for young people extends beyond the classroom; he strives to help missing and exploited children and designs children's toys, games, and comic and coloring books to teach children about the dangers of child abduction; his notable work has been honored in the past by the City of Houston, which proclaimed June 1, 2006, as Graden E. Taylor Day; and WHEREAS, Graden Taylor has long opened doors to a brighter future for young people in the Bayou City, and his contributions continue to resonate in the lives of the many young people who have benefited from his commitment, skill, and compassion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Graden E. Taylor for his outstanding efforts in behalf of young Texans and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
