5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Graden E. Taylor of Houston has made significant |

6 | 6 | | contributions to public education by helping to advance learning |
---|
7 | 7 | | opportunities for Houston area youth; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An educator for more than 30 years, Mr. Taylor |
---|
9 | 9 | | currently teaches chemistry and physics at South Houston High |
---|
10 | 10 | | School in the Pasadena Independent School District; in addition to |
---|
11 | 11 | | providing his students with a solid educational foundation on which |
---|
12 | 12 | | to build through his work with them in the classroom, he also |
---|
13 | 13 | | devotes weekends and summer breaks to helping young people; |
---|
14 | 14 | | moreover, he has personally funded more than $117,000 in |
---|
15 | 15 | | scholarships to provide training for disadvantaged and at-risk |
---|
16 | 16 | | youth; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In an effort to reach an even greater number of |
---|
18 | 18 | | students, Mr. Taylor authored Peanut Butter and Jelly Answers - A |
---|
19 | 19 | | Test Improvement Manual for Exam Day Blackout, which has been |
---|
20 | 20 | | endorsed by former Secretary of Education Dr. Rod Paige, who also |
---|
21 | 21 | | wrote the foreword to the book; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor's concern for young people extends beyond |
---|
23 | 23 | | the classroom; he strives to help missing and exploited children |
---|
24 | 24 | | and designs children's toys, games, and comic and coloring books to |
---|
25 | 25 | | teach children about the dangers of child abduction; his notable |
---|
26 | 26 | | work has been honored in the past by the City of Houston, which |
---|
27 | 27 | | proclaimed June 1, 2006, as Graden E. Taylor Day; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Graden Taylor has long opened doors to a brighter |
---|
29 | 29 | | future for young people in the Bayou City, and his contributions |
---|
30 | 30 | | continue to resonate in the lives of the many young people who have |
---|
31 | 31 | | benefited from his commitment, skill, and compassion; now, |
---|
32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby honor Graden E. Taylor for his outstanding |
---|
35 | 35 | | efforts in behalf of young Texans and extend to him sincere best |
---|
36 | 36 | | wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it |
---|
