44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Graden E. Taylor of Houston has made significant
66 contributions to public education by helping to advance learning
77 opportunities for Houston area youth; and
88 WHEREAS, An educator for more than 30 years, Mr. Taylor
99 currently teaches chemistry and physics at South Houston High
1010 School in the Pasadena Independent School District; in addition to
1111 providing his students with a solid educational foundation on which
1212 to build through his work with them in the classroom, he also
1313 devotes weekends and summer breaks to helping young people;
1414 moreover, he has personally funded more than $117,000 in
1515 scholarships to provide training for disadvantaged and at-risk
1616 youth; and
1717 WHEREAS, In an effort to reach an even greater number of
1818 students, Mr. Taylor authored Peanut Butter and Jelly Answers - A
1919 Test Improvement Manual for Exam Day Blackout, which has been
2020 endorsed by former Secretary of Education Dr. Rod Paige, who also
2121 wrote the foreword to the book; and
2222 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor's concern for young people extends beyond
2323 the classroom; he strives to help missing and exploited children
2424 and designs children's toys, games, and comic and coloring books to
2525 teach children about the dangers of child abduction; his notable
2626 work has been honored in the past by the City of Houston, which
2727 proclaimed June 1, 2006, as Graden E. Taylor Day; and
2828 WHEREAS, Graden Taylor has long opened doors to a brighter
2929 future for young people in the Bayou City, and his contributions
3030 continue to resonate in the lives of the many young people who have
3131 benefited from his commitment, skill, and compassion; now,
3232 therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby honor Graden E. Taylor for his outstanding
3535 efforts in behalf of young Texans and extend to him sincere best
3636 wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it
3737 further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for Mr. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4040 House of Representatives.
