R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Aviance Kelechi Obie was honored for her
achievements at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon on
April 18, 2009; and
WHEREAS, This gathering recognized 23 students who have
distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic
involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith
Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist
Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an automobile accident at
the age of 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund;
and
WHEREAS, Aviance Obie is the daughter of Ernest and Edna
Obie; she is a fifth-grade student at Valley West Elementary School
and a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Dominion
Chapel; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Obie was recognized with the Principal's Honors
Award in each of the last three years and by the City of Houston
Summer Reading Program in 2007; she enjoys playing the piano and has
earned a green belt in karate; and
WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is an exemplary member of her
community and a source of tremendous pride to her family and
teachers, and she may indeed look with anticipation and optimism
toward the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Aviance Kelechi Obie on being named
a 2009 honoree at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon
and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all
of her endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Obie as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
