 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately convey the heartache felt at
 the loss of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Matthew Sauer Medlicott of
 Houston, who died in combat on August 25, 2007, at the age of 21; and
 WHEREAS, Corporal Medlicott was serving his second tour of
 duty in Iraq when he was killed while conducting operations in
 Saqlawiyah, Anbar Province; he was assigned to the 1st Platoon,
 Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine
 Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, which is based at Camp
 Pendleton in California; and
 WHEREAS, A member of the Class of 2005 at Spring Woods High
 School in Houston, he answered his nation's call to duty shortly
 after receiving his diploma and graduated from the Marine Corps
 Recruit Depot in San Diego in September 2005; and
 WHEREAS, This valiant young man was the recipient of the
 Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq
 Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Navy Sea
 Service Deployment Ribbon with one bronze star, and he was
 posthumously awarded the Purple Heart; and
 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. Marine
 Corps, Matthew Medlicott inspired others with his commitment and
 courage; although his death has left a void in the lives of his
 loved ones, they will forever carry his memory close in their
 hearts; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Marine Lance
 Corporal Matthew Sauer Medlicott and extend deepest condolences to
 the members of his family: to his mother, Juyne Sauer; to his
 stepfather, Mark Bigham; to his brother, Marine Sergeant Nicholas
 Medlicott, and his wife, Hospital Corpsman Second Class Elizabeth
 Erin Medlicott; to his sister, Katie Sauer; to his girlfriend,
 Brittani Mulherin; to his aunt, Carol Kehlenbrink, and her
 daughter, Olivia; to his nephew, Alek Jeremy Babineaux; to his
 father, William B. Medlicott; to his maternal grandparents, Norman
 and Ann Sauer; to his maternal great-grandmother, Lillian Sauer; to
 his uncle, Ronald Sauer; to his paternal grandmother, Barbera
 Medlicott; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Marine
 Lance Corporal Matthew Sauer Medlicott.
