55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately convey the heartache felt at
66 the loss of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Matthew Sauer Medlicott of
77 Houston, who died in combat on August 25, 2007, at the age of 21; and
88 WHEREAS, Corporal Medlicott was serving his second tour of
99 duty in Iraq when he was killed while conducting operations in
1010 Saqlawiyah, Anbar Province; he was assigned to the 1st Platoon,
1111 Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine
1212 Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, which is based at Camp
1313 Pendleton in California; and
1414 WHEREAS, A member of the Class of 2005 at Spring Woods High
1515 School in Houston, he answered his nation's call to duty shortly
1616 after receiving his diploma and graduated from the Marine Corps
1717 Recruit Depot in San Diego in September 2005; and
1818 WHEREAS, This valiant young man was the recipient of the
1919 Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq
2020 Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Navy Sea
2121 Service Deployment Ribbon with one bronze star, and he was
2222 posthumously awarded the Purple Heart; and
2323 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. Marine
2424 Corps, Matthew Medlicott inspired others with his commitment and
2525 courage; although his death has left a void in the lives of his
2626 loved ones, they will forever carry his memory close in their
2727 hearts; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2929 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Marine Lance
3030 Corporal Matthew Sauer Medlicott and extend deepest condolences to
3131 the members of his family: to his mother, Juyne Sauer; to his
3232 stepfather, Mark Bigham; to his brother, Marine Sergeant Nicholas
3333 Medlicott, and his wife, Hospital Corpsman Second Class Elizabeth
3434 Erin Medlicott; to his sister, Katie Sauer; to his girlfriend,
3535 Brittani Mulherin; to his aunt, Carol Kehlenbrink, and her
3636 daughter, Olivia; to his nephew, Alek Jeremy Babineaux; to his
3737 father, William B. Medlicott; to his maternal grandparents, Norman
3838 and Ann Sauer; to his maternal great-grandmother, Lillian Sauer; to
3939 his uncle, Ronald Sauer; to his paternal grandmother, Barbera
4040 Medlicott; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it

4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Marine
4545 Lance Corporal Matthew Sauer Medlicott.
