| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss |

| 6 | 6 | | of U.S. Army Corporal Steven Ivan Candelo of Houston, who died on |

| 7 | 7 | | March 26, 2008, at the age of 20; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Regiment, based at Vilseck, Germany, Corporal Candelo was killed |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | while bravely serving his country in Baghdad, Iraq; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Born on June 11, 1987, Steven Candelo graduated in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 2005 from Elsik High School and subsequently became a proud member |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | of the army; known for his courage, wisdom, and drive, he already |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | owned his own home and was to be the first in his family to attend |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | college; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The military awards conferred on Corporal Candelo |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | include the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Time can never diminish the profound debt that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Americans owe to Steven Candelo for the service he undertook and the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | sacrifice he rendered, and the thoughts and prayers of many go out |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to the family of this beloved young man; he was a soldier of honor |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and valor, and those who were privileged to know him will forever |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal |

| 26 | 26 | | Steven I. Candelo and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his |

| 27 | 27 | | family: to his parents, Alvaro Candelo and Julia Martinez; to his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | sisters, Ivanna and Erica Candelo; to his fiance, Erica Vasquez; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
