| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal Rhett |

| 6 | 6 | | Allen Butler of Fort Worth suffered an immeasurable loss with the |

| 7 | 7 | | death of this valiant soldier on July 20, 2007, at the age of 22; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | out of Fort Lewis, Washington, Corporal Butler was mortally wounded |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in Khan Bani Sa'd, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Iraq; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Named for the character from Gone With the Wind, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Rhett Butler was a gregarious young man who graduated from high |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | school in Glen Rose in 2003 and joined the army in 2004; his |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | determination to serve his nation was so strong that he worked hard |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to meet the army's qualifications after he was turned down on his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | first attempt to enlist; he was known for his devotion to his |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | friends and his fellow soldiers and for his love of science fiction |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | books and movies; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Butler's patriotism and courage exemplify |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and although his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | passing has left a void in the lives of those who were fortunate |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | enough to know him, they will forever carry their memories of this |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | heroic Texan close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal |

| 28 | 28 | | Rhett Allen Butler and extend sincere condolences to the members of |

| 29 | 29 | | his family: to his mother, Sereta Ramsey, and her husband, James; to |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his father, Dr. David Butler, and his wife, Janice; to his sisters, |

| 31 | 31 | | Shayre Strickland and her husband, Fred, Jr., and Shawna Conway; to |

| 32 | 32 | | his stepbrother, Jarrett Ganer; to his stepsister, Melissa Ganer; |
