55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
66 at the loss of Texas Army National Guard Sergeant Major Julio C.
77 Ordonez of San Antonio, who died while bravely serving his country
88 on September 18, 2008; and
99 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 149th Aviation, 36th
1010 Combat Aviation Brigade in Grand Prairie, Sergeant Major Ordonez
1111 was one of seven soldiers killed when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter
1212 he was riding in went down near Tallil, Iraq; at the time, he was
1313 serving his second tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
1414 WHEREAS, Originally from Honduras, Sergeant Major Ordonez
1515 enlisted in the military in 1982 and served as a helicopter engineer
1616 in Arkansas before joining the Texas Army National Guard; he
1717 attended St. Philip's College and Hallmark Institute in San
1818 Antonio, where he was employed for many years at the city's Army
1919 Aviation Support Facility; and
2020 WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Ordonez was a mentor to countless
2121 young soldiers, who trusted his caring and courteous demeanor; he
2222 had recently been promoted to first sergeant and was posthumously
2323 promoted to sergeant major; and
2424 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
2525 servicemen and servicewomen, whose love for their country inspires
2626 them to take up military service, and their dedicated efforts and
2727 enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest
2828 respect and gratitude; and
2929 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
3030 forces, Julio Ordonez inspired others with his commitment,
3131 leadership, and courage; although his death has left a void in the
3232 lives of his loved ones, they will forever carry memories of this
3333 heroic Texan close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3535 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Major Julio
3636 C. Ordonez and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family:
3737 to his wife, Leticia; to his sons, Julio and Jacob; to his
3838 daughters, Joyce and Judith; and to his other relatives and many
3939 friends; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4242 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant
4343 Major Julio C. Ordonez.
