6 | 6 | | at the loss of Texas Army National Guard Sergeant Major Julio C. |

7 | 7 | | Ordonez of San Antonio, who died while bravely serving his country |

8 | 8 | | on September 18, 2008; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 149th Aviation, 36th |
---|
10 | 10 | | Combat Aviation Brigade in Grand Prairie, Sergeant Major Ordonez |
---|
11 | 11 | | was one of seven soldiers killed when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter |
---|
12 | 12 | | he was riding in went down near Tallil, Iraq; at the time, he was |
---|
13 | 13 | | serving his second tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Originally from Honduras, Sergeant Major Ordonez |
---|
15 | 15 | | enlisted in the military in 1982 and served as a helicopter engineer |
---|
16 | 16 | | in Arkansas before joining the Texas Army National Guard; he |
---|
17 | 17 | | attended St. Philip's College and Hallmark Institute in San |
---|
18 | 18 | | Antonio, where he was employed for many years at the city's Army |
---|
19 | 19 | | Aviation Support Facility; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Ordonez was a mentor to countless |
---|
21 | 21 | | young soldiers, who trusted his caring and courteous demeanor; he |
---|
22 | 22 | | had recently been promoted to first sergeant and was posthumously |
---|
23 | 23 | | promoted to sergeant major; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's |
---|
25 | 25 | | servicemen and servicewomen, whose love for their country inspires |
---|
26 | 26 | | them to take up military service, and their dedicated efforts and |
---|
27 | 27 | | enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest |
---|
28 | 28 | | respect and gratitude; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed |
---|
30 | 30 | | forces, Julio Ordonez inspired others with his commitment, |
---|
31 | 31 | | leadership, and courage; although his death has left a void in the |
---|
32 | 32 | | lives of his loved ones, they will forever carry memories of this |
---|
33 | 33 | | heroic Texan close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Major Julio |

36 | 36 | | C. Ordonez and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: |

37 | 37 | | to his wife, Leticia; to his sons, Julio and Jacob; to his |

38 | 38 | | daughters, Joyce and Judith; and to his other relatives and many |
