| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss |

| 6 | 6 | | of U.S. Army Specialist William Lawrence Edwards, who died on |

| 7 | 7 | | August 11, 2007, at the age of 23; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Specialist Edwards was killed while bravely serving his country in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Iraq; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Billy Edwards grew up in Houston, where he was a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | valued member of Boy Scout Troop No. 599; in addition to attaining |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the prestigious Eagle Scout badge at the age of 15, he was elected |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | senior patrol leader by his fellow scouts, a position in which he |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | supervised the 100 members of his troop; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, He went on to study at Texas A&M University, proudly |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | serving with the Corps of Cadets C-2 unit before joining the U.S. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Army; a young man with great ambitions, he hoped to one day attend |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | law school and serve his fellow citizens as a member of Congress; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | women whose love of country leads them to military duty, and time |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | can never diminish the profound debt that Americans owe to Billy |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Edwards for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he rendered; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The thoughts and prayers of many go out to the family |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of this beloved young man; he was a soldier of honor and valor, and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | those who were fortunate enough to share in the blessing of his life |

| 30 | 30 | | will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Specialist William |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Lawrence Edwards and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn |

| 34 | 34 | | his passing; and, be it further |
