55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
66 the death of U.S. Army Specialist Jermaine Donnell Franklin of
77 Arlington, who died on November 9, 2007, at the age of 22; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment,
99 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Specialist
1010 Franklin lost his life while bravely serving his country in Iraq;
1111 and
1212 WHEREAS, Known for his fine sense of humor and his way with
1313 children, Specialist Franklin admired his grandfather and father,
1414 both of whom served this country in battle, and he proudly followed
1515 in their footsteps when he joined the United States Army; and
1616 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
1717 women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
1818 service, yet the tragic death of this young soldier is a sobering
1919 reminder of the cost of war; Specialist Franklin embodied the
2020 highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and
2121 loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
2222 therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2424 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
2525 Jermaine Donnell Franklin and extend deepest sympathy to all those
2626 who mourn his passing; and, be it further
2727 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2828 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2929 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
3030 Specialist Jermaine Donnell Franklin.
