55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
66 at the loss of U.S. Army Specialist Michael James Jaurigue of Texas
77 City, who was killed in Iraq on May 26, 2007, at the age of 20; and
88 WHEREAS, A member of the 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute
99 Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division,
1010 Specialist Jaurigue was a machine gunner who had been in Iraq since
1111 August 2006; he was mortally wounded during combat operations near
1212 Samarra; and
1313 WHEREAS, Despite the dangerous nature of his assignment,
1414 Specialist Jaurigue was committed to fulfilling his mission to the
1515 very best of his ability, and the heroism he demonstrated in battle
1616 earned him numerous decorations, including the Bronze Star and
1717 Purple Heart; and
1818 WHEREAS, Michael Jaurigue was born on August 11, 1986, in
1919 Honolulu, Hawaii; he attended Texas City High School before
2020 graduating from Dickinson High School in 2004; a member of the
2121 American Legion in Texas City, he enjoyed visiting the post to shoot
2222 pool and listen to music with friends; and
2323 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men
2424 and women whose love for their country inspires them to military
2525 service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary young man is a
2626 sobering reminder of the cost of war; Specialist Jaurigue embodied
2727 the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and
2828 loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
2929 therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the House of Representative of the 81st Texas
3131 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
3232 Michael James Jaurigue and extend deepest sympathy to the members
3333 of his family: to his father, Jose Noe Jaurigue; to his mother,
3434 Juana Nico Jaurigue; to his sister, Monica Jaurigue; to his nephew,
3535 Kevin Heimavr; to his grandparents, Miqueila Almanza and Epifanio
3636 and Teresa Mata; and to his other relatives and many friends; and,
3737 be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Michael
4141 James Jaurigue.
