5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal Peter |

6 | 6 | | Courcy of Frisco suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of |

7 | 7 | | this valiant soldier on February 10, 2009, at the age of 22; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry |
---|
9 | 9 | | Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based |
---|
10 | 10 | | at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Corporal Courcy was killed while |
---|
11 | 11 | | bravely serving his country in Salerno, Afghanistan; he was |
---|
12 | 12 | | posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Peter Courcy had dreamed of a military career since |
---|
14 | 14 | | childhood, inspired by his grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | his uncle who served in the Persian Gulf War; he graduated in 2004 |
---|
16 | 16 | | from Frisco High School, where he was a member of the hockey and |
---|
17 | 17 | | wrestling teams, and went on to attend community college and play |
---|
18 | 18 | | amateur hockey for the Dallas Ice Hawks; he subsequently enlisted |
---|
19 | 19 | | in the army in 2006 and was trained as an Airborne assault gunner |
---|
20 | 20 | | before deploying to Afghanistan in March 2008; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Courcy received numerous awards and |
---|
22 | 22 | | decorations for his distinguished service, including the Army |
---|
23 | 23 | | Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global |
---|
24 | 24 | | War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Air |
---|
25 | 25 | | Assault Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and Weapons Qualification, |
---|
26 | 26 | | M4, expert; he had recently signed on for another five years of |
---|
27 | 27 | | service and hoped to one day join the Special Forces; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Known for his cheerful personality and playful sense |
---|
29 | 29 | | of humor, Corporal Courcy lifted the spirits of his fellow soldiers |
---|
30 | 30 | | during hard times; he was an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan who |
---|
31 | 31 | | looked forward to sharing his favorite team with his infant son, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Anthony Luke, whom he and his wife, the former Mara Gash, welcomed |

33 | 33 | | in September 2008; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed |

35 | 35 | | forces, Peter Courcy inspired others with his commitment, |
---|
36 | 36 | | leadership, and courage; although his death has left a void in the |
---|
37 | 37 | | lives of his loved ones, they will forever carry memories of this |
---|
38 | 38 | | heroic Texan close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corporal Peter Courcy |

41 | 41 | | and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his |

42 | 42 | | wife, Mara Courcy; to his son, Anthony Luke Courcy; to his mother |

43 | 43 | | and stepfather, Mary and Chris Bush; to his father, Jon Mitchell; to |

44 | 44 | | his grandfather, Ernest Courcy; to his uncle, Daniel Colasanto; and |
