44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal Peter
66 Courcy of Frisco suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of
77 this valiant soldier on February 10, 2009, at the age of 22; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry
99 Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based
1010 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Corporal Courcy was killed while
1111 bravely serving his country in Salerno, Afghanistan; he was
1212 posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal; and
1313 WHEREAS, Peter Courcy had dreamed of a military career since
1414 childhood, inspired by his grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran, and
1515 his uncle who served in the Persian Gulf War; he graduated in 2004
1616 from Frisco High School, where he was a member of the hockey and
1717 wrestling teams, and went on to attend community college and play
1818 amateur hockey for the Dallas Ice Hawks; he subsequently enlisted
1919 in the army in 2006 and was trained as an Airborne assault gunner
2020 before deploying to Afghanistan in March 2008; and
2121 WHEREAS, Corporal Courcy received numerous awards and
2222 decorations for his distinguished service, including the Army
2323 Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global
2424 War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Air
2525 Assault Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and Weapons Qualification,
2626 M4, expert; he had recently signed on for another five years of
2727 service and hoped to one day join the Special Forces; and
2828 WHEREAS, Known for his cheerful personality and playful sense
2929 of humor, Corporal Courcy lifted the spirits of his fellow soldiers
3030 during hard times; he was an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan who
3131 looked forward to sharing his favorite team with his infant son,
3232 Anthony Luke, whom he and his wife, the former Mara Gash, welcomed
3333 in September 2008; and
3434 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
3535 forces, Peter Courcy inspired others with his commitment,
3636 leadership, and courage; although his death has left a void in the
3737 lives of his loved ones, they will forever carry memories of this
3838 heroic Texan close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corporal Peter Courcy
4141 and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4242 wife, Mara Courcy; to his son, Anthony Luke Courcy; to his mother
4343 and stepfather, Mary and Chris Bush; to his father, Jon Mitchell; to
4444 his grandfather, Ernest Courcy; to his uncle, Daniel Colasanto; and
4545 to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Peter
4949 Courcy.
