44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Major Thomas G.
66 Bostick, Jr., of Llano suffered an immeasurable loss with the death
77 of this valiant soldier on July 27, 2007, at the age of 37; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment
99 of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, based in Vicenza, Italy,
1010 Major Bostick lost his life while bravely serving his country on his
1111 second tour of duty in Afghanistan; he was posthumously promoted to
1212 the rank of major; and
1313 WHEREAS, Tommy Bostick graduated in 1988 from Llano High
1414 School, where he was a star on the basketball team; he joined the
1515 Army Reserve in his senior year and subsequently embarked on an
1616 active-duty military career, serving in Panama in 1989, followed by
1717 Operations Desert Thunder, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom;
1818 initially an enlisted soldier, he later attended officer training
1919 school and became a commander and a member of the elite Army
2020 Rangers; his achievements in uniform inspired others, particularly
2121 his younger brother, Bobby, who followed in his footsteps to become
2222 a Ranger; and
2323 WHEREAS, Major Bostick married Jennifer Dudley in 1992, and
2424 they were the proud parents of two daughters, Jessica and Ashlie;
2525 beloved for his warm personality and natural optimism, Tommy
2626 Bostick connected easily with children and looked forward to one
2727 day pursuing a second career as a teacher; he had also undertaken
2828 studies in law enforcement and earned a degree in criminal justice
2929 from Columbus State University; and
3030 WHEREAS, Highly decorated throughout his career, Major
3131 Bostick was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, a
3232 Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, the Master
3333 Parachutist Badge, and multiple Army Commendation Medals; and
3434 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
3535 servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous
3636 sacrifices are deserving of the deepest respect and gratitude;
3737 through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, Tommy Bostick
3838 embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and
3939 those who knew him will forever hold his memory close in their
4040 hearts; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4242 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Major Thomas G.
4343 Bostick, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
4444 family: to his wife, Jennifer Bostick; to his daughters, Jessica
4545 and Ashlie Bostick; to his mother and stepfather, Brenda and Jim
4646 Richardson; to his father and stepmother, Tommy and Ann Bostick; to
4747 his brother, Sergeant Bobby Bostick; to his grandparents, Maudean
4848 and Bob Keeler; to his stepsisters, Sonya Richardson, Valorie Ruth,
4949 and Shamariee Bostick; to his stepbrother, J. W. Richardson; and to
5050 his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
5151 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5252 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5353 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thomas G.
