| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt |

| 6 | 6 | | at the loss of U.S. Army Specialist Orlando Antonio Perez of |

| 7 | 7 | | Houston, who died on February 24, 2008, at the age of 23; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | based in Vilseck, Germany, Specialist Perez lost his life while |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | bravely serving his country in Baghdad, Iraq; he was especially |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | admired by his fellow platoon members for his willingness to be the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | first to enter rooms when searching for insurgents in Iraq; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Tony Perez was born in Houston on December 10, 1984; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | he graduated from Bellaire High School, where he was a dedicated |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | member of the ROTC program, and went on to attend the University of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Houston; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | service, yet the tragic death of this brave young man is a sobering |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | reminder of the cost of war; Tony Perez embodied the highest ideals |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and loved him will |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | forever carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Orlando Antonio Perez and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his wife, April Perez; to his mother, Nicolasa Arevalo; to his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | brother, Edward Marta; to his sister, Angelica Marta; and to his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | other relatives and friends; and, be it further |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
