| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, With her retirement at the close of the 2008-2009 |

| 6 | 6 | | school year, educator Ruby Leona Gates concludes a notable career |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | with the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native Texan, Ruby Leona Williams was born in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Roscoe to Aubrey and Rosie Williams; she grew up in Hermleigh and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | later earned a degree from Angelo State University; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1972, she married Lieutenant Ned Gates, and the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | couple's military travels took them to Webb Air Force Base in Big |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Spring and on to California, Nebraska, Okinawa, and England before |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | they settled in the Alamo City; today, this devoted mother of three |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | sons, Jeff, Travis, and Sam, and "Nana" to granddaughter, Zoey, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | delights in her treasured family that also includes a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | daughter-in-law, Mary; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Since joining the faculty of William H. Taft High |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | School in 1989, Mrs. Gates has influenced scores of young people on |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | their journey to becoming engaged, productive citizens; she was |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | instrumental in the development of Taft's special education |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | program, which has grown to a current enrollment of 35; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A devout congregant of St. Brigid's Catholic Church, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Mrs. Gates is widely known for her Southern charm, her |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | award-winning sweet potato pies, and her skill as a Bunko player; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Ruby Gates has long contributed her talents in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | behalf of her profession, her family, and her community, and her |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | retirement offers a welcome opportunity to reflect on her many |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Ruby Leona Gates on her retirement |

| 33 | 33 | | from Taft High School and extend to her sincere best wishes for |

| 34 | 34 | | happiness and good fortune in the years ahead; and, be it further |
