| 8 | 8 | | in Jersey City, New Jersey; and |

| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 2005 by professional golfer Phil |

| 10 | 10 | | Mickelson and his wife, Amy, in association with ExxonMobil, the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | academy brings together teachers from across the nation to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | participate in an intensive week of professional development |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | workshops devoted to innovative techniques for teaching math and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | science; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Third through fifth grade teachers may apply for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | admission to attend this prestigious academy; participants are |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | chosen based on their qualifications and their dedication to their |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | students and their profession by a panel of educators from the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Science Teachers Association; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A teacher at Hastings Elementary in Duncanville, |

| 22 | 22 | | Katrice Williams is one of only 200 teachers selected for the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | academy this year from among the more than 1,600 teachers who have |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | applied for admission to the program since 2008; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The future economic vitality of Texas will depend in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | part on the education received by the young people of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | State, and teachers play a vital role in helping to prepare their |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | students for success in the 21st century; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Katrice Williams on her selection |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | to attend the 2009 National Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy |

| 32 | 32 | | and extend to her sincere best wishes for an informative and |
