| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dara Eng has been named salutatorian of the Class of |

| 6 | 6 | | 2009 at Evan E. Worthing Senior High School in Houston, and for |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | achieving this significant honor, she indeed merits special |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | recognition; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Earning the title of salutatorian requires not only |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | academic standards; the student who garners this coveted |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | preparation are myriad; Ms. Eng has served as president of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | National Honor Society and as captain of her school's varsity |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | softball team, and she has also distinguished herself in University |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Interscholastic League history and accounting competitions; long |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | interested in our nation's armed forces, she plans to join the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | United States Marine Corps; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In addition to the pride inherent in being |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | recognized as the second highest achieving student in her class, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the salutatorian is frequently the recipient of scholarships and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | grants; she also gains the opportunity to address her fellow |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | seniors at commencement and to reflect on their shared history as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | well as their hopes and ambitions for the future; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her academic career, Dara Eng has earned |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the respect and admiration of her teachers and classmates at |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Worthing Senior High, and her exceptional scholastic ability, hard |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | work, and commitment to excellence have surely opened the way to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | limitless opportunities for this remarkable young Texan; now, |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
