| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Hoover has played a vital role in her community |

| 6 | 6 | | through her service with the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The El Paso YWCA provides services to empower and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | enrich the lives of women and girls in the El Paso region, and it is |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mary Hoover's relationship with the El Paso YWCA |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | dates back to her childhood, when she learned gymnastics and tap |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | dance at the YWCA building on Franklin Street as an eight-year-old |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | girl; thanks to her early athletic training, she has remained |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | active throughout her life, as a skilled tennis player and golfer; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 1969, Ms. Hoover joined the YWCA's board of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | directors, playing an instrumental role in adapting the institution |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to handle the requirements of providing day care to its members; as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the board's treasurer, she also played a role in managing the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | federal money that became available to support child care at that |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | time; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated volunteers play an important role in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | communities across the Lone Star State, and for many years, Mary |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Hoover has served as an inspiring leader and role model in El Paso |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | through her work with this noteworthy organization; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commend Mary Hoover for her record of service |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | with the El Paso YWCA and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | continued happiness; and, be it further |
