| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Alex Boerschinger of El Paso demonstrated bravery |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and resolve on May 5, 2009, when he rescued a neighbor from her |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | burning house; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, That afternoon, Mr. Boerschinger and his wife, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Anique Vasquez, smelled smoke coming through their air conditioner |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in their home in northeast El Paso; they went outside and discovered |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | a neighboring house in flames, which were spreading to another |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | house next door; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Vasquez called 9-1-1, and Mr. Boerschinger |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | knocked on the door of the burning house to warn the residents; when |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | no one answered, he went in through a side door and found a woman |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | inside, who was confused and afraid; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Despite the thickening, choking smoke, Mr. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Boerschinger took charge and led the woman and her two dogs to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | safety; thanks to his decisive action, no one was seriously injured |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in the blaze; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Boerschinger put himself in harm's way to help a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | neighbor in grave danger, and his swift and selfless action averted |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | what could have been a terrible tragedy; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby commend Alex Boerschinger for his life-saving |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | actions on May 5, 2009, and honor this remarkable gentleman as a |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | true Texas hero; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
