| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Barbara |

| 6 | 6 | | Gulick Rathke of Del Rio, who passed away on March 18, 2009, at the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | age of 66; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Sparks and Lenora Gulick, the former |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Barbara Gulick was born in Del Rio on December 15, 1942; she went on |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to graduate from Del Rio High School in 1960, and she later earned a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | master's degree in education from Sul Ross State University; she |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | became a teacher in the local public school system, and her students |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | cherished her ability to brighten the classroom and make learning |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | fun with her creative instruction and imaginative storytelling; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | after 30 years as an educator, she retired in 2003; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A devoted wife to Dr. Herman L. Rathke, Mrs. Rathke |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | enjoyed spending time with him on their farm, feeding their |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | livestock, tending to their horses and dogs, and riding horses with |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | her children and grandchildren; with a passion for animals, Mrs. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Rathke assisted with her husband's veterinary practice and would |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | often care for the animals who were in distress; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Rathke enriched the lives of many with her |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | kindness and generosity, and she will forever hold a treasured |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | place in the hearts of all who were privileged to share in her love |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and friendship; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Gulick |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Rathke and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to |

| 29 | 29 | | her husband, Dr. Herman L. Rathke; to her daughter, Elaine Coggins, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and her husband, Toby; to her son, Lucas Gilliam, and his wife, |

| 31 | 31 | | Mariana; to her sisters, Cookie Gulick, Cathie Callnan and her |

| 32 | 32 | | husband, Ken, and Sandra Cauthorn and her husband, Bobby; to her |
