44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Dr. Newt Hasson of Austin was deservedly inducted
66 into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame on May 2, 2009; and
77 WHEREAS, Dr. Hasson is the first team doctor ever to become a
88 member of the hall of fame, and his induction pays fitting tribute
99 to his remarkable service in behalf of the Westlake High School
1010 football team; and
1111 WHEREAS, For 23 seasons, he has volunteered his time and
1212 expertise to benefit Chaps players, missing only a few games since
1313 he first began working with the team in 1985; he also helps to
1414 organize other members of the local medical community to provide
1515 sports physicals for aspiring Westlake athletes, and his efforts
1616 have been emulated by volunteers at other schools across the state;
1717 and
1818 WHEREAS, An orthopedic surgeon in his professional life, Dr.
1919 Hasson has long been involved in athletics, having played college
2020 football himself at Duke University; he and his wife, Pam, have
2121 lived in the Westlake area since 1983, when they decided to make
2222 Texas their permanent home because of the state's legendary passion
2323 for the gridiron; and
2424 WHEREAS, Other members of the Hasson family have also
2525 contributed to the Chaps football program; Pam Hasson and the
2626 couple's three children are frequently in the stands, cheering on
2727 the team, and son Duke Hasson stepped in as the starting quarterback
2828 in 2000 and helped lead Westlake to the state title game; and
2929 WHEREAS, Newt Hasson has provided quality medical care to
3030 Westlake football players for nearly a quarter-century, and his
3131 generosity and tireless support have made him an admirable and
3232 influential figure in Texas high school sports; now, therefore, be
3333 it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3535 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Newt Hasson on his induction
3636 into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame and extend to him
3737 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for Dr. Hasson as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4040 House of Representatives.
