H.R. No. 2419 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Residents of Garland have greatly benefited from the dedicated leadership of John Willis since he was elected to the city council in May 2008; and WHEREAS, During his tenure in municipal government, Councilmember Willis has ably guided the city with an eye to the future, and his knowledge and expertise in a wide range of community issues have earned him the respect of many people along the way; and WHEREAS, A Garland native, Councilmember Willis earned a bachelor's degree in economics from The University of Texas at Austin and returned to his hometown after graduation, ultimately settling in the same neighborhood in which he was raised; professionally, he has worked with his father and older brother for many years building, remodeling, and roofing houses; and WHEREAS, Councilmember Willis has renovated a number of older homes in the community and strives to preserve the charm and character of Garland's established neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, He has further contributed to his community as a member of the Garland Board of Adjustment, the Chandler Heights Neighborhood Association, and the English Estates Neighborhood Vitality program; in addition, he has worked with the city to develop an ordinance to regulate rental homes in a fair manner; and WHEREAS, Each day, public servants improve the quality of life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and the efforts of John Willis are helping to make Garland an even better place in which to live and work; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Councilmember John Willis for his outstanding civic service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Councilmember Willis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
