| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Garland have greatly benefited from the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | dedicated leadership of John Willis since he was elected to the city |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | council in May 2008; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure in municipal government, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Councilmember Willis has ably guided the city with an eye to the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | future, and his knowledge and expertise in a wide range of community |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | issues have earned him the respect of many people along the way; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A Garland native, Councilmember Willis earned a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | bachelor's degree in economics from The University of Texas at |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Austin and returned to his hometown after graduation, ultimately |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | settling in the same neighborhood in which he was raised; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | professionally, he has worked with his father and older brother for |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | many years building, remodeling, and roofing houses; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Councilmember Willis has renovated a number of older |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | homes in the community and strives to preserve the charm and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | character of Garland's established neighborhoods; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, He has further contributed to his community as a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | member of the Garland Board of Adjustment, the Chandler Heights |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Neighborhood Association, and the English Estates Neighborhood |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Vitality program; in addition, he has worked with the city to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | develop an ordinance to regulate rental homes in a fair manner; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Each day, public servants improve the quality of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and the efforts |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of John Willis are helping to make Garland an even better place in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | which to live and work; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor Councilmember John Willis for his |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | outstanding civic service and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
