| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Houston Minority Supplier Development Council |

| 6 | 6 | | (HMSDC) is hosting EXPO 2009, the Lone Star State's largest |

| 7 | 7 | | minority business development trade fair, at the George R. Brown |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Convention Center on September 1 and 2, 2009; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The HMSDC is affiliated with the Houston Minority |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Business Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | business opportunities for minority-owned businesses by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | encouraging their relationships with major corporations; the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | group's membership includes more than 220 corporations and over 900 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | minority businesses; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The council's annual EXPO helps major corporations |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to identify proven minority suppliers and to disseminate |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | information on conducting business with their companies; moreover, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the fair allows minority businesses to explore contracting |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | opportunities with corporations and government agencies by |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | building relationships with key personnel; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, EXPO 2009 will build on the success of last year's |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | event, which brought together more than 1,500 attendees and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | generated over $235,000 in corporate sponsorship; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The Houston Minority Supplier Development Council |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and EXPO 2009 contribute greatly to the economic vitality of Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | by providing invaluable resources and new opportunities for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | minority-owned businesses, and it is a pleasure to recognize this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | worthy endeavor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commemorate EXPO 2009, hosted by the Houston |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Minority Supplier Development Council, and extend best wishes to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the trade fair's sponsors and participants for an enjoyable and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | productive event; and, be it further |
