44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
66 memories of longtime educator Patsy L. Roach of San Angelo, who
77 passed away on May 4, 2009, at the age of 80; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Sherman to Ross and Marguerite Orenduff on
99 January 15, 1929, the former Patti Orenduff graduated from McKinney
1010 High School, where she was drum major for three years; she earned a
1111 bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University in 1951 and
1212 subsequently moved to Dexter, New Mexico, for a teaching position;
1313 it was there that she met the love of her life, Hank Roach, and after
1414 a two-week courtship, the couple were married; they shared 58 years
1515 together and raised two children, Dusty and Tudi; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roach and her husband lived in Amarillo,
1717 Lubbock, and Big Spring before making their home in San Angelo; Mrs.
1818 Roach served for a time on the faculty at Rio Vista Elementary
1919 School, and then planned to give up teaching, but when she answered
2020 a call to fill in at Central High School, she found her passion as a
2121 senior English teacher; for nearly three decades, she inspired and
2222 encouraged students with her fair, no-nonsense approach and her
2323 obvious joy in the subject, and she received the Texas Excellence
2424 Award for Outstanding High School Teachers from the Ex-Students'
2525 Association and the College of Education of The University of Texas
2626 in 1988; and
2727 WHEREAS, Following her retirement in 1990, Mrs. Roach dearly
2828 missed the classroom, and she soon returned to the field as a
2929 substitute; moreover, she was invited to teach a class at Howard
3030 College; through the years, she enjoyed lasting friendships with
3131 many of her former students; and
3232 WHEREAS, Patti Roach sparked a love of learning, writing, and
3333 reading in countless students during her distinguished career at
3434 Central High School and touched many other people's lives along the
3535 way; although she will be deeply missed, she leaves behind a legacy
3636 that will continue to resonate for many years to come; now,
3737 therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3939 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Patsy L. Roach and
4040 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
4141 husband, Henry C. Roach; to her son, Dusty Roach and his wife,
4242 Barbie; to her daughter, Tudi Wilson and her husband, Rick; to her
4343 grandchildren, Sommer Ahrens and her husband, Mike, Amy Wilder and
4444 her husband, Ray, Ross Roach, and Cooper Wilson; to her six
4545 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Coletin, Logan, Emily, Cadence, and
4646 Dylan; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4949 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Patti
5050 Roach.
