5	5	WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
6	6	memories of longtime educator Patsy L. Roach of San Angelo, who
7	7	passed away on May 4, 2009, at the age of 80; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Sherman to Ross and Marguerite Orenduff on
9	9	January 15, 1929, the former Patti Orenduff graduated from McKinney
10	10	High School, where she was drum major for three years; she earned a
11	11	bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University in 1951 and
12	12	subsequently moved to Dexter, New Mexico, for a teaching position;
13	13	it was there that she met the love of her life, Hank Roach, and after
14	14	a two-week courtship, the couple were married; they shared 58 years
15	15	together and raised two children, Dusty and Tudi; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Mrs. Roach and her husband lived in Amarillo,
17	17	Lubbock, and Big Spring before making their home in San Angelo; Mrs.
18	18	Roach served for a time on the faculty at Rio Vista Elementary
19	19	School, and then planned to give up teaching, but when she answered
20	20	a call to fill in at Central High School, she found her passion as a
21	21	senior English teacher; for nearly three decades, she inspired and
22	22	encouraged students with her fair, no-nonsense approach and her
23	23	obvious joy in the subject, and she received the Texas Excellence
24	24	Award for Outstanding High School Teachers from the Ex-Students'
25	25	Association and the College of Education of The University of Texas
26	26	in 1988; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Following her retirement in 1990, Mrs. Roach dearly
28	28	missed the classroom, and she soon returned to the field as a
29	29	substitute; moreover, she was invited to teach a class at Howard
30	30	College; through the years, she enjoyed lasting friendships with
31	31	many of her former students; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Patti Roach sparked a love of learning, writing, and
33	33	reading in countless students during her distinguished career at
34	34	Central High School and touched many other people's lives along the
35	35	way; although she will be deeply missed, she leaves behind a legacy
36	36	that will continue to resonate for many years to come; now,
37	37	therefore, be it
38	38	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
39	39	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Patsy L. Roach and
40	40	extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
41	41	husband, Henry C. Roach; to her son, Dusty Roach and his wife,
42	42	Barbie; to her daughter, Tudi Wilson and her husband, Rick; to her
43	43	grandchildren, Sommer Ahrens and her husband, Mike, Amy Wilder and
44	44	her husband, Ray, Ross Roach, and Cooper Wilson; to her six
45	45	great-grandchildren, Bailey, Coletin, Logan, Emily, Cadence, and
46	46	Dylan; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
47	47	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
48	48	prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
49	49	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Patti
50	50	Roach.
