| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For more than a decade, the Summer Santa |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | organization has remained dedicated to enhancing the lives of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | children in northeast Tarrant County; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Created by Judge Brad Bradley and Dave Lieber in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1997, Summer Santa encourages members of the community to support |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | children's causes, not only during the holidays but throughout the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | year; an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, Summer Santa has |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | served more than 30,000 children in North Texas through its various |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | programs and activities; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The work of Summer Santa includes collecting toys |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | from area schools and books from Barnes & Noble Booksellers to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | distribute to a number of local charities that assist children in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | need; in addition, this noteworthy organization offers summer camp |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | scholarships to approximately 250 young people each year, as well |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | as free checkups for those children who need medical clearance to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | attend camp; Summer Santa has also built a partnership with Kohl's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | department store, through which it provides back-to-school |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | clothing and supplies to hundreds of youth at reduced rates; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Summer Santa is helping build a brighter future for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | many young Texans, and its efforts indeed merit special |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor Summer Santa for its outstanding service |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | to children and extend to all those associated with the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | organization sincere best wishes for continued success with their |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | worthy endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 32 | 32 | | prepared for Summer Santa as an expression of high regard by the |
|---|
